zzzacck The Cradle is new to me (thanks Michele @ WFMU), and it seems I'm late, but it sure reminds me of late 90s/early 00s DIY bedroom stuff, K records, Mississippi tape comps – stuff like that. The album is really steady without being stale thanks to the freaky instrumentals.

Ben Eisenberger This one gets cool and weird. Sounds like folk and sounds like pop and sounds like a Gamelan sometimes or something lol. Nice Favorite track: I'm Such A Fool.

yusuf thompson I’ve only previously heard his 2018 album ‘Bag of Holding’, so I’m not sure about the culmination of his various musical styles but I will say that this album is very good. The songs are typically quite short (around the 2 minute mark) but there are a few exceptions. The arrangements are wonderful and overall it’s just a great batch of songs. Favorite track: Joke's On You.

After 30 or so previous releases, 'Laughing in my Sleep' represents a synthesis of the many sonic flavors The Cradle has served us up since the genesis of the project in 2013.

It is a sprawling, multi-faceted album that will give a first-time listener a little taste of everything, from hi-fidelity, lyrical guitar-based music to grimy 4-track drum machine songs, to spoken word pieces and voice memo interludes sent straight from a cell phone.

Likewise, the album is thematically diverse, recorded in the spring of 2018 during a wandering period of frequent travel and change. Songs range inward and outward, from spiteful to gracious, from frustrated to silly. Never missing, though, is the sense of exploration and wonder that has always permeated Cathcart's work.
